We have developed this section of the Growing up in Orkney website with help from Care Leavers who live in Orkney.
In each of the areas below we have outlined our commitment to you. We will continue to listen to what you say and take action where necessary. If you feel that we have not matched this commitment or any other then please let us know.
Care leavers are young people who were in care on or after their 16th birthday.
If you have any questions about these pages or about being a Care Leaver get in touch by sending an email to Aftercare@orkney.gov.uk
We heard from young people on their experiences of leaving care and some told us they were getting the support they needed and were getting good support from a number of different services. However, we also heard that young people were often unclear about what they could ask for or should expect. At times they were not getting the support they needed when they needed it and they said that Orkney need to “make it better” for all care leavers.
