Some of you have received the support you needed to access further and higher education. Guidance teachers in school have been important in this area. For others they were less clear about how to access education and training opportunities.

Orkney is committed to supporting care leavers to access education, training, personal development, and lifelong learning opportunities that help them achieve their goals and realise their potential.

Care leavers will receive

  • Access to tailored advice, guidance, and practical support through collaborative working between schools, youth services, colleges, universities, training providers, and third-sector partners.
  • Access to accredited youth work programmes, life skills and confidence-building courses, volunteering, work placements, career planning, further and higher education, and specialist support to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Dedicated assistance to ensure young people receive support with transitions, applications, financial assistance, training pathways, and personal development.
